F1 Singapore GP: Magnussen looking to keep cool in Marina Bay heat

Kevin Magnussen's 2016 season continues to bump along in a series of midfield runs and non-scores, but the Dane is looking forward to returning to one of F1's more unique venues, in Singapore, next weekend.

While he remains Renault's only point scorer this season, thanks to his seventh place in round four in Russia, Magnussen has not bettered 14th place in any race since then, but is relishing the challenge of the Marina Bay circuit all the same.

"It's a really cool circuit - the track itself is fun and I always enjoy driving on street circuits," he explained, "That said, it's also a pretty tricky circuit to get right, with a lot of corners where a mistake can be easily made. Grip levels evolve throughout the weekend, so the key is set-up and getting the balance right. Hopefully it's a track where we can better our performance a little bit after a disappointing last European race."

That race was at Monza last weekend, with Magnussen frustrating himself by running off the road on his hot lap in Q1, condemning himself to 21st on the grid and another tough afternoon the ultimately yielded only 17th in the final result. His last appearance in Marina Bay was more painful than disappointing, with only a point to show for his troubles in the McLaren in 2014.

"Even though we race at night, it gets very hot in Singapore and that's a challenge in itself," Magnussen reflected, "It didn't go very well [the last time I raced there] as I had an overheating issue in the car - on top of the hot conditions! A radiator seal had broken and there was hot air coming into the cockpit. It was extremely hot so, this year, I'm just hoping for a solid race where we can fight in the pack."
