F1 signs off Pirelli in-season tests for 2017 tyres

The F1 Commission has accepted and approved Pirelli's proposal for more in-season track time to test next year's tyre compounds ahead of the regulations revamp.

In preparation for the expected technical regulations changes Pirelli has outlined a test timetable in readiness for next season. The plan has been approved by the F1 Commission on Monday (18th April) which is expected to be confirmed by the World Motor Sport Council on Wednesday (20th April).

Headlining the changes is the doubling of test days, from 12 to 25, to implement two phases of testing. The first will work with pre-hybrid era cars to complete initial work before moving on to a 2015-specification car with modified aerodynamics which will be outlined once the 2017 regulations are announced.

Coming off the back of this testing plan Pirelli and the FIA are expected to confirm a new three-year contract extension having already agreed to remain as sole tyre supplier in F1 until at least 2019.
