F1 Mexican GP: 2008 shows why I can’t give up, insists Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton has vowed not to give up on his 2016 Formula 1 World Championship hopes until it is impossible for him to win, pointing to his 2008 title win as to what can happen 'until the last minute'.

It is eight years to the day that Hamilton won his first F1 world title in extraordinary circumstances after passing Timo Glock - struggling on slick tyres in increasingly damp conditions - on the final corner of the Brazilian Grand Prix to secure the fifth place he needed to beat Felipe Massa to the championship.

With Hamilton coming into the final two races of the season chasing down a 19 point deficit to Nico Rosberg and knowing that wins won't be enough alone for him to overhaul his Mercedes team-mate, he says his 2008 last gasp success is proof that he can't allow himself to let his guard drop.

"It's great to be performing as I know I can perform and not have car problems," he said of his lights-to-flag wins in both Austin and Mexico. "To show that pace out there today in the last race it's a great feeling. I've just got to push all the way to the end.

"One way it can be painful and one way it can be a great thing, but all I know is that from the beginning of my career in Formula One right until the last minute, it changes, so that's why I can't give up."
