F1: McLaren entering Brazilian GP weekend with 'cautious optimism'

Could McLaren score points in consecutive races for just the second time this weekend with another top 10 finish in Brazil?

McLaren racing director Eric Boullier says the team is entering this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix with "cautious optimism" as it bids to score points in consecutive Formula 1 races for just the second time this season.

McLaren currently sits ninth in the F1 constructors' championship after a difficult season blighted by issues with the team's Honda power unit, but showed signs of progress last time out in Mexico as Fernando Alonso fought from the back of the field to take a point for P10.

With the layout of the Interlagos circuit better-suited to the team's MCL32 car than the track in Mexico, Boullier is hopeful of McLaren's chances of scoring points once again, particularly given the circuit's reputation for changeable weather that could present opportunities.

"The difference between a solid points-scoring result and not is often the number of gambles the teams of strategists up and down the pit lane have to take depending on the given weather situation, which makes it one of the most exciting race weekends on the calendar," Boullier said.

"For McLaren, we're heading into the weekend with cautious optimism as we know that statistically this circuit should suit the strengths of our package better than the past couple of venues we've visited.

"Both of our drivers are well prepared for the weekend ahead and the whole team is looking forward to the legendary welcome we always receive from the incredible Brazilian crowds.

"I hope we can contribute to the great show the enthusiastic fans have come to expect there each year and end the weekend with a positive result."
