F1 Malaysian GP: Mallya predicts further twists against Williams

Force India team principal Vijay Mallya expects the tussle with Williams over fourth place in the F1 World Constructors' championship to go down to the fine details and sees the advantage flipping between the pair until Abu Dhabi.

The Silverstone-based team moved back up to fourth in the F1 teams' standings in Singapore thanks to Sergio Perez's eighth place coupled with Williams' failure to score at the Marina Bay Circuit.

Over the final two rounds of the European stretch of the campaign before Singapore the two teams had traded fourth place after each race and Mallya predicts the form trend to continue until the season finale.

"Formula One always throws up surprises and I imagine there will be more twists and turns to come," Mallya said. "So I've told the team to keep doing the same job we have done all year and to enjoy the challenge ahead of us. Being back in fourth place is important, but it's being there at the end of the season that counts."

Despite Force India's contrasting fortunes at Singapore - with Nico Hulkenberg's race ending before turn one while Perez produced a masterclass drive to go from 17th to eighth - Mallya says the team is in high spirits as it targets its highest-ever finish in the F1 standings to trump last year's effort of fifth place.

"We are certainly at the business end of the season," he said. "The morale is high; the drivers are happy and the car is working well. So we feel optimistic, but after nine years as a Team Principal I'm well aware that we cannot take anything for granted."
