F1 Italian GP: Giovinazzi rewarded with Ferrari simulator run
Antonio Giovinazzi has been given a trial in Ferrari's simulator as the GP2 title contender looks to continue raising his profile amongst prospective F1 teams.
Giovinazzi has been the revelation of the GP2 season, the Italian rookie stepping up from European Formula 3 to quickly establish himself as a title contender. A fourth win of the season on home soil at Monza this weekend has placed him ten points adrift of Prema Racing team-mate Pierre Gasly in the overall standings.
As a reward for his efforts, Ferrari invited the 22 year-old to sample its simulator at Maranello, though Giovinazzi would allude to the fact this is nothing more than a one-off experience.
"It was a very enjoyable experience and I would like to thank Ferrari for this opportunity. However, now it's straight back to concentrating fully on my GP2 programme for the rest of this season."
Despite his superb form this year, Giovinazzi is not associated with any F1 team, with the majority of his backing coming from Jagonaya Ayam, the Indonesian arm of KFC.
