F1 Italian GP: Ferrari update needs tweaking – Vettel

Sebastian Vettel feels satisfied with the step in performance from Ferrari's latest power unit upgrade but accepts it needs tweaking to get the feeling and power delivery in the right areas as it looks to close the gap to Mercedes.

Both Ferrari drivers got to grips with the final upgrade on the Italian manufacturer's power unit as Ferrari spent its last development tokens for 2016 ahead of its home race.

Vettel claimed third on the timesheet after FP2 but remainder nearly half a second off the top time set by Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton.

Vettel has confirmed the update is a positive step forward but needs some fine-tuning in order to maximise its full potential around the power-dependant Monza circuit.

"We are trying a lot of thing on Fridays, different things, so Fridays can be difficult but it looked okay," Vettel said. "Nevertheless, the feeling is not yet right completely. It is Friday obviously but I think we can do more to improve from where we are now.

"In general the car feels good, but we still need to improve from where we are, we need to make it feel good in every corner and bring it together but other than that, the first impression is positive. We have a new engine, so I think it's doing what it is supposed to do."

Vettel confirmed Ferrari will analyse its full day of engine data from both his and Kimi Raikkonen's car and continued its development path during FP3 ahead of qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix.
