F1 British GP: Raikkonen fastest as Silverstone test concludes

Kimi Raikkonen has notched up the fastest lap at the final in-season test at Silverstone in the final hour of track action to edge Esteban Ocon's benchmark set in the morning session.

The Finn, one of only four F1 race drivers in action on day two of the test, powered to the top of the standings with a late 1m 30.665s on soft tyres to pull out over half a second on Ocon in the Mercedes, with both drivers completing over a century of laps to mark the end of in-season F1 testing in 2016.

Despite the threat of heavy showers throughout the afternoon session there was only a gentle sprinkle of rain around the midway mark which quickly dried to provide teams with a full day of running after day one's post-lunch washout.

Ocon completed a marathon 139 laps, adding to his 123 laps on day one, while Raikkonen in the rival Ferrari will be content with 102 laps completed.

A final-lap flyer saw Pierre Gasly in the Red Bull jump to third fastest two-tenths back on the Mercedes driver having also completed a plus-century 103 laps.

Another late surge from Nikita Mazepin saw the Force India rise to third using to super-softs to set a 1m 31.561s to pull out two-tenths on Stoffel Vandoorne in the McLaren-Honda who experimented with the ultra-soft but failed to set a quicker time to remain fifth.

Valtteri Bottas competed a full testing programme for Williams while also trialing the team's double-stacked wing which made a brief outing at the Barcelona in-season test.

The wing would be banned under current F1 rules but may be consider ahead of the 2017 regulations revamp.

Santino Ferrucci has ended an impressive F1 test debut with Haas having notched up another 107 laps on day two with a best time of 1m 33.141s to go seventh on the timesheet.

Jolyon Palmer enjoyed a stronger showing for Renault than his frustrating British Grand Prix DNF to take eighth overall having run for 98 laps, though his day did end with a technical issue on his very final lap, ahead of F1 debutant Sergio Sette Camara in the Toro Rosso.

Jordan King in the Manor completed the teams running with 70 laps to his name as Sauber skipped the final in-season test due to financial constraints.

Finally, Pascal Wehrlein rounded out the cars on track in the 2014 Mercedes W05 running with 2017 Pirelli prototype tyres having completed a Pirelli-specific programme.
