F1 Brazilian GP: Vettel: Verstappen overtake not ‘correct’

Sebastian Vettel has again criticised Max Verstappen for driving standards after labelling his pass on the Ferrari driver during the latter stage of the Brazilian Grand Prix as 'not correct'.

The German endured an eventful Brazilian Grand Prix at a sodden Interlagos after spinning out of fifth place early on around the treacherous final corner, putting him to the back of the field.

Though he'd recover back up the order to an eventual fifth place, he was still overtaken himself on the way by a charging Max Verstappen in what was at the time a dispute for sixth. With the Dutchman passing up the inside at Juncao and Vettel running out wide onto the exit kerb, the German came onto the radio to complain he'd been forced off.

With Verstappen going on to finish third, Vettel was once again frustrated by a pass that he deemed to be unfair.

"I think I was racing him side-by-side and he saw me and I still had a little bit of my nose ahead, but he was much faster. So it was about the corner, the way you get passed, not if you get passed, but I don't think that was correct."

Going on to finish in fifth position to consolidate his fourth place in the overall standings, Vettel was satisfied with the end result despite the spin.

"Obviously not ideal in the first part to spin. I had some aquaplaning but I wasn't the only one. I think it was a good recovery in the end, difficult to come back. I struggled to get past Carlos, I don't know why it took a lot of laps but by then it was too late."

Despite Vettel's words towards Verstappen - the latest in a string of contentious moments between the pair in 2016 -, the German himself received scathing criticism from Fernando Alonso after the Spaniard felt he was forced off the track, prompting him to claim he will 'hit' the Ferrari driver when faced with the same situation next time.
