F1 Brazilian GP: Hamilton won’t try to force mistakes from Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton says he won't look to try tricks on Nico Rosberg during the Brazilian Grand Prix and would prefer to win the race and let the F1 world championship battle sort itself out.

With a 19-point deficit to Rosberg, Hamilton must finish ahead of his Mercedes team-mate to keep an genuine title hopes alive to the final round in Abu Dhabi while if Rosberg wins in Brazil the 2016 world championship is his regardless of Hamilton's efforts.

For Hamilton to win the title he needs Rosberg to finish off the rostrum and despite the temptation to try to bring other drivers into contention - such as Red Bull and Ferrari - the defending champion wants to focus on claiming a maiden win in Brazil and let fate play its role.

"I don't believe there is anything I can do, honestly," Hamilton said. "I'm sure you could maybe try and do something and try and be smart and then just screw yourself over, so it's not something that I'm going to do anyway.

"I want to win because I've been the best, not through tactics that I did or anything like that.

"I'm in this awkward position due to a lot of issues we've had this year and there's nothing I can do about that. I'm really happy with how the end of the season is going so far and I just want to keep pushing. As long as I do my job in these next two races that's all I can ask for."

Similarly, Rosberg is refusing to consider title permutations ahead of the Brazilian GP by sticking to his trusted 'one race at a time' mantra as he targets a third consecutive win at Interlagos, which would bring with it a first F1 world crown.

"I don't think about individual drivers around me in that sense," Rosberg said. "For me, my focus is forward and about attacking Lewis into turn one so that is what I am putting my energy into. That's it.

"We are free to race and always have been, of course, there are strict rules of engagement that we need to adhere to but apart from that we will go for it."
