F1 Brazilian GP: Brazilian GP red flagged after Raikkonen crash

The Brazilian Grand Prix has been halted on lap 19 after Kimi Raikkonen suffered a sizeable crash in treacherous weather conditions at Interlagos.

With steady rain falling throughout the morning and into the afternoon, the race got began behind the safety car but returned to full racing conditions on lap nine with Lewis Hamilton ahead of Nico Rosberg and Max Verstappen.

With several drivers immediately pitting for intermediate rubber, a crash for Marcus Ericsson coming onto the home straight would see the safety car come out again on lap 13, during which time rain began to fall more heavily.

As such, on the restart Raikkonen - still on full wets - aquaplaned into the outside barrier on the home straight before spinning to the inside. Fortunate not to be collected by any of the following drivers, Raikkonen was unhurt in the smash but it would force stewards to throw the red flag.

Earlier in the race, Sebastian Vettel was another spinner when he lost control out of the final corner before resuming at the back of the field, while Romain Grosjean failed to start after crashing on the way to the grid.
