Ex-McLaren Formula 1 CEO Jost Capito back to VW in road-car role
Ex-McLaren Formula 1 CEO Jost Capito has rejoined German car manufacturer Volkswagen as a managing director.
Capito led led Volkswagen through a period utter domination of the World Rally Championship, with four successive manufacturer and driver titles with Sebastien Ogier and the Polo R WRC from 2013 to 2016.
He left Volkswagen, where he was the manufacturer's head of motorsport activities, in August last year.
Capito joined McLaren in September but his spell at the Woking-based team lasted just a few months and his departure was officially confirmed in February.
The 58-year-old has now returned to Volkswagen, where he will be managing director of Volkswagen R GmbH and Volkswagen Zubehor GmbH.
Volkswagen R is the car maker's competence center for design- and performance-oriented products, while Volkswagen Zubehor develops and markets vehicle accessories.
Capito has experience on this sort of automotive project - he was Ford's head of global performance vehicles before joining VW the first time.
He succeeds Ulrich Riestenpatt gt. Richter in the role.
