ERC2 star Chuchała enjoys another duel for points

ERC2 leader Wojciech Chuchała says he enjoyed battling with Jarosław Kołtun for outright FIA European Rally Championship points for the second event in a row on the Circuit of Ireland.

The Subaru Poland Rally Team star has been a revelation of the season so far, and is unbeaten in ERC2 with two clean sweeps from two events. He's also making his mark against top-class machinery, with a stunning fifth overall on Rally Islas Canarias last month after keeping Ford Fiesta R5 driver Kołtun at bay. In Northern Ireland, he charged from 22nd to 11th over the course of the event, though ultimately lost out in another duel with fellow Pole Kołtun by just 4.5 seconds.

Chuchała explained that those giant-killing performances have come despite the need to avoid the sort of risks that could cause him to throw away maximum ERC2 points.

"Paradoxically, leading by a wide margin in the class, we are in a difficult situation because we can not afford the slightest error, which would squander such a result, so we take fewer risks than our competitors," he said.

"This does not mean, however, that you do not engage in combat, because the duel with Jarek Koltun was very cool. We are pleased that been able to use our car to the maximum, among other Group Ns the Subaru is unbeatable. The premise of the team is conquering the ERC 2 and we are doing just that."
