ERC’s Scattolon is number one on home territory
Italy's Giacomo Scattolon put the disappointment of missing out on the runner-up spot in ERC2 on the FIA European Rally Championship opener in Spain by winning his class on the Motors Rally Show at home.
The Motors Rally Show was held on the Castellotti circuit in northern Italy, and is similar in character to the famed Monza Rally Show hosted at the home of the Italian Grand Prix.
The event was won by former Italian champion Piero Longhi, but the 26-year-old Scattolon, seeded first, dominated the production category in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10 en route to 12th overall.
The Italian was using the all-asphalt event as a shakedown in preparation for the Circuit of Ireland, which gets underway next week. "The championship didn't start the way I wanted it to start, but we still have time to make amends," said Scattolon. "I know that Ireland is a complex event, but I am hoping that it will suit us."
