ERC’s leading drivers make up strong Acropolis entry list

The FIA European Rally Championship's leading drivers feature on another strong entry list for round three, the SEAJETS Acropolis Rally.

Thirty-six cars are entered into the ERC section of the event, 22 of which have drivers that have registered for the ERC this season. With more than 40 cars expected in the national event, the total number will be over 80.

The defending champion and points leader Kajetan Kajetanowicz will carry the #1 as he looks for his first ERC win since the 2015 rally in Greece, held last October. Alexey Lukyanuk, who won March's Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés, is set to return after a pre-event testing crash ruled him out of the Circuit of Ireland, with Roman Kapustin poised to join him in the co-driver's seat.

Robert Consani will hope for a turn of luck, while Jaromír Tarabus, Dávid Botka and Raul Jeets head back to Greece after top six finishes there in 2015. Other ERC regulars in attendance will be Jarosław Kołtun, Tomasz Kasperczyk, Antonin Tlusťák and Federico Della Casa, who has entered a Peugeot 208 T16 rather than his usual Citroen DS3 R5.

Two of the most exciting entries come in ŠKODA Fabia R5s, with the 2015 ERC Junior runner-up Ralfs Sirmacis making his first top-flight start and Greek hero Lambros Athanassoulas returning to the ERC to try and repeat or even better last year's podium at home.

Wojciech Chuchała will go in search of his third win from as many events in the ERC2 class, but is up against a full complement of rivals with Giacomo Scattolon, Péter Ranga, Juan Carlos Alonso and Tibor Érdi joined by debutant Jose Luis Jacquet Rios, who will compete outside of his native Paraguay for the first time.

In ERC3, Łukasz Pieniążek will follow his ERC Junior win on the Circuit of Ireland by competing in Greece, along with double two-wheel drive champion Zoltán Bessenyey, Turkish star Murat Bostanci and Romania's Alexandru Filip, who has upgraded to the latest version of the Renault Clio for the start of his 2016 campaign.
