ERC leader Lukyanuk explains his Circuit-ending crash
FIA European Rally Championship points leader and Canary Islands winner Alexey Lukyanuk has described the testing crash that has ruled him out of this week's Circuit of Ireland.
The Russian driver will be forced to miss round two after damaging his Ford Fiesta R5 during a high-speed testing crash in wet conditions two days ago.
He said: "We had already been testing for 70 kilometres and the feeling with the car was good; we were working away with the set-up and with tyres. As one of the wet tyres had been damaged earlier, we decided to use a cross combination of wet and intermediate tyres.
"This combination gave us good pace, but in a fast corner the back of the car just got away from me, and as the road was so narrow there was no room to sort it out and we crashed. It would have been technically possible to repair the car on time, but unfortunately we have to skip the rally now to pay for the repairs."
