ERC Junior star Tannert goes back to his roots
ERC Junior Championship frontrunner Julius Tannert is fitting in more practice for the asphalt rounds of the series by returning to the first rally that he ever competed on.
Tannert and his co-driver Jennifer Thielen will compete on the Sachsen Rally in Germany with their regular 190-horsepower Opel Adam R2 from May 20-21. Four years ago, the Zwickau-based all-asphalt rally, in eastern Germany, was Tannert's first-ever event.
"For me, this is the nicest rally in Germany and of course I've got really good memories of it," said the 25-year-old. "I'm particularly pleased to come back here now as a member of the Opel factory team. I'm using this rally to prepare for the asphalt rounds of the ERC, and of course I want to do well at home."
Tannert is currently sixth in the ERC Junior standings, which are led by Polish driver Łukasz Pieniążek.
