ERC Junior ace Ingram wins on his German debut
Chris Ingram scored a class win on his first ever rally in Germany as he gained more experience in the factory-backed Opel he's campaigning in the FIA European Rally Championship.
The 21-year-old Briton, who finished second in ERC Junior on the Circuit of Ireland last month, finished 11th overall on the Sachsen Rallye, based in the town of Zwickau. He and co-driver Katrin Becker (a regular on the event) finished over two minutes clear in Division 5 despite a final-stage puncture.
The next ERC Junior round takes place on gravel on the Azores Airlines Rallye, but the asphalt event helped Ingram to prepare for June's Kenotek Ypres Rally.
"The bottom line is I am very satisfied," said Ingram. "For me, it is still important to collect as many kilometres in the Adam R2 as possible, so I can drive the car at the extreme limit. But to win is always better.
"Here it was equally important to find a good asphalt setup for Ypres. And of course I always had in mind that our cars go from here directly to the Azores. The primary objective was therefore to bring the car safely across the finish."
Ingram's Opel team-mate Julius Tannert also took part - returning to the event on which he made his first ever rally start - but failed to finish.
