ERC boss gives green light to Gran Canaria until 2017
The Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés will remain as part of the FIA European Rally Championship until at least 2017, following its return to the series after a three-year hiatus.
"We were very pleased with how the rally was run," said ERC General Coordinator Jean-Baptiste Ley. "In the past there were some issues that needed to be addressed, but now these have all been resolved satisfactorily, thanks to the very big efforts of the rally organisers to optimise every aspect of the event. The result was a very successful three days that all the drivers loved, and we are proud to have this rally on our calendar until at least 2017."
All the drivers paid tribute to the quality of the stages and competition on the Canary Islands-based event. "it was a very tough rally that deserves to be at the top level in the sport," said Canarias winner Alexey Lukyanuk. "I found it very challenging, but of course this sport is meant to be hard. So it's good that it's here."
