Danny Kroes joins PCR Sport for TCR Europe
Danny Kroes has signed up to race in the full TCR Europe Series season, where he will drive a Cupra TCR run by the Spanish outfit PCR Sport.
Kroes took part in two race weekends last year in a SEAT León TCR, partnering with Pepe Oriola at the Zandvoort round of the TCR Benelux series, before making his TCR International Series debut at Oschersleben in Germany. Kroes took three top ten finishes on his TCR Benelux debut, before scoring points on his first outing in the TCR International Series with ninth, following a sterling drive from the back of the grid, after he suffered from a technical issue in qualifying.
Kroes will race for Spanish team PCR Sport, which makes the move to Touring Car racing with a two-car programme; ‘youth' is the keyword of the season, with 18-year-old Kroes joining 21-year-old Spaniard Mikel Azcona, while WTCR star Pepe Oriola will be Kroes' coach for the forthcoming season.
The team has just begun its pre-season testing programme at Valencia's Circuito Ricardo Tormo.
"I'm really happy to drive for a full season. Previously, it's been quite a high pressure as it has all been about the one weekend when I've raced, whereas now it's a different kind of pressure, because we are working to a full season plan. My teammate Mikel Azcona has a lot of experience, so during the year I can learn from him and we can work together to get the best results for the team. I also know the car well from racing it last year at Zandvoort and Oschersleben and it has already proven to be strong. Together with PCR Sport I'm sure we're going to have a fantastic season ahead," said Kroes.
