Dakar Rally 2017: Sixth stage in Bolivia cancelled due to storms
The sixth stage of the 2017 Dakar Rally has been cancelled due to increasing bad weather in Bolivia.
Friday's fifth stage from Tupiza to Oruro was shortened as a rainstorm hit the Oruro region and made some the tracks impossible to navigate.
As conditions deteriorated, rally organisers decided to cancel Saturday's stage, which was set to run for a total of 488 miles (with a 327-mile timed section), from Oruro to the Bolivian capital of La Paz.
The cancellation of the sixth stage means competitors are effectively given a two-day break, as the official rest day was due to be held in La Paz on Sunday.
Action will therefore resume on Monday with Stage 7, running from La Paz to Uyuni, covering a total of 386 miles, of which 200 miles will be timed.
Peugeot driver Stephane Peterhansel currently leads the way in the cars category, ahead of team-mate Sebastien Loeb, who won Friday's leg.
