Consani rides an emotional rollercoaster on ERC
FIA European Rally Championship frontrunner Robert Consani has described the Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés as one of the most emotionally challenging events he has ever contested.
The Frenchman's goal is to finish in the top three of the championship this year, and he was on course for a third place finish in the Canary Islands, before his Peugeot 208 T16 hit mechanical problems that dropped him down the order to an eventual seventh place overall.
"It was emotionally a very difficult event," said Consani. "To go from the satisfaction of a good opening day to the despair of helplessly watching the minutes go by while you try in vain to start your car just puts you on the floor. It's an immense frustration to know that you're in the fight for the podium from the very start of the rally, but then it doesn't happen through no fault of your own."
Consani will be back in action on the Circuit of Ireland from 7-9 April.
