Breen came within 10 minutes of missing ERC Circuit of Ireland
Two-time Circuit of Ireland winner Craig Breen came within 10 minutes of skipping the event, after he only secured the sponsorship needed to take part in the latest round of the FIA European Rally Championship at the very last minute before entries closed.
Breen relied heavily on a wide variety of local sponsors, who contributed varying amounts in order to enable him to take the start in a Citroën DS3 R5.
"I have to thank everyone for making it possible, for a while it looked like it wasn't happening," said Breen at the finish. "I reckon I probably came within five or 10 minutes of not making it. But I just couldn't let this event go and I was determined to be there. Now I'm so happy that I just can't believe it. We looked like we were in danger of losing the win earlier, but I dug deep and tried to find the speed that we needed: I wanted that win so badly."
Breen now joins a very select group of drivers to have won the Circuit of Ireland more than once, including multiple British champion Jim McRae.
