Beat that! WTCR media choose Suzuka finale as best race of 2018
Race 3 at WTCR JVCKENWOOD Race of Japan has come out on top of a vote by international media reporting on the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO in 2018.
Won by Gabriele Tarquini – a result that would ultimately prove decisive in his title triumph in Macau the following month – the Suzuka showpiece was an action-packed affair from start to finish. Read the flash report here and watch the main action here.
Hans van Onsem of Autosport.be enjoyed every moment: “The third race in Suzuka [had] an [previously] unseen number of overtaking manoeuvres, plenty of chaos and drama.”
Tamara Aller of Spanish title TodoRacing wrote: “Plenty of action, contact, overtaking and thrilling until the chequered flag,” while Pedro Mendes of Portuguese website Chicane Motores said: “It had everything that we were expecting from a touring car race: incidents, speed and lots of battles for every position.”
Autosprint reporter Antonio Caruccio was also a fan of the Suzuka action but actually chose Race 1, which his fellow Italian Kevin Ceccon won in an Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris.
In what was a close vote, Szilvia Magyar of Hungarian website Motorzaj.hu voted for Race 2 at Vila Real in Portugal, while A Bola and Autofoco writer José Caetano chose the title-deciding third race in Macau.
Other races to receive votes include Race 2 at WTCR Race of China-Wuhan, Race 1 and Race 3 at WTCR Race of Germany and Race 3 at WTCR Race of Slovakia.
