Alonso to mull over F1 future through summer break
Fernando Alonso will give some thought to his Formula 1 future through the sport's summer break with a view to making a decision on his 2018 plans in September or October.
Alonso is out of contract with McLaren at the end of the year, and remains frustrated by the team's lack of on-track performance, limiting him to just two points finishes through the opening 11 rounds of the season.
Alonso has stressed that he needs to be fighting at the front of the pack once again in 2018, and will use the break between Hungary and Spa to consider his next move.
"I'll be thinking about my future during the break, for sure," Alonso said.
"As I've sad before, September/October is my timeline to decide what I'll do next year. I want to win, I think I'm at the top of my game now.
"So let's hope everything goes well and we'll find the best solution for everybody."
McLaren is known to be considering a split with struggling engine partner Honda for next year, although options seem hard to come by, with Renault being the only viable alternative at the moment.
