A top ERC result not up in flames this time for Greer
Fifth place on this year's Circuit of Ireland was the perfect way for Jonny Greer to get over the cruel misfortune that hit him at the finish line of his local FIA European Rally Championship event in 2015.
Greer, who is based near to the rally's home of Belfast, completed the final stage of last year's ‘Circuit' holding onto sixth place overall, but a fire in the engine bay of his Citroën DS3 R5 at the stop line forced him to retire before he could officially finish the event, leaving him empty-handed.
This time, he and co-driver Kirsty Riddick stayed clear of trouble to climb from 10th to fifth overall during the course of Saturday's stages, and go one better than they had been on course for 12 months ago. The result was the icing on the cake for his family's DGM Sport operation, which won the rally with returning ERC star Craig Breen in another DS3 R5.
