Suspension and Steering in "Mad Mike's" 1200hp Drift Machine
You can have all the power in the world, but in a pro-spec drift machine it’s nothing without control. After it was revealed that a twin turbo 26B rotary engine with at least 1,200hp will power Mad Mike Whiddett’s new Formula Drift contender - a 2014-spec Mazda MX-5 - it’s only fitting that the steering and suspension systems are the focus in part three of the six-part Making of RADBUL series. In this episode, Whiddett, and the car’s lead engineer Kaz Townsend, talk us through the MX-5’s handling upgrades, many of which have been custom designed in CAD and fabricated specifically for the application.
