Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo Gr. 5 - Sound In Action On Track

In my opinion the 4th Generation Group 5 (1976 - 1982) was one of the best motor racing classification. During those years the Gr. 5 homologation allowed the extensive modifications to production based vehicles and permitted to see in action some of the most amazing race cars ever made, such as the various Porsche 935 Kremer, the Zakspeed Ford Capri, BMW M1 & 320i Turbo and many others. The one you see in this video is the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo which was unveiled for the first time in December 1978. It was based on the Beta Montecarlo road car but little of the road car was retained for the racing car. Thanks to the help of the racing expert Abarth for the mechanicals, the designer Pininfarina for the aerodynamics and the chassis guru Giampaolo Dallara, the final work was amazing. The little 1.4 litre 4-cylinder engine was able to reach 400 bhp (in the last version it reached 473 bhp), thanks to a KKK-Turbo, with the car that only weighed 780 kg. The 0-100 km/h acceleration was performed in just 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 270 km/h (168 mph).
