WTCR Honda set for 24-hour race run
The FIA World Touring Car Cup-bound Honda Civic Type R TCR will make its race debut in Dubai this weekend.
RKC/TGM Motorsport, the first customer outfit to take delivery of the car, is contesting the opening round of the 24H Series.
David Drinkwater, Tom Gannon, Umair Khan and former factory Honda British Touring Car Championship driver James Kaye will join Team Principal Ricky Coomber in the Civic Type R TCR, one of 15 TCR cars competing in the Middle East twice-round-the-clock event.
The new Civic Type R TCR, based on the latest version of the road-going Civic Type R, is one of 25 being built by JAS Motorsport in Italy. It was unveiled in October and has undergone an intensive testing programme in Europe. The previous version of the car took 13 major championship titles in 2017 and 16 in total.
WTCR 2018 gets underway at the Circuit Moulay El Hassan in Marrakech, Morocco, from 7-8 April. The all-new category is set to total 10 events in four continents with the finale scheduled for Macau from 15-18 November.
