WTCC runner-up Michelisz thrilled with top Hungarian award
Norbert Michelisz has received yet more silverware. Twenty-four hours after picking up his trophy for finishing runner-up in the FIA World Touring Car Championship at the FIA Prize Giving event in Paris, the Hungarian was honoured a little closer to home.
Following his standout WTCC campaign, which included battling for the prestigious title at Qatar's duel in the desert, taking three wins and a season-best three pole positions to earn the prestigious DHL Pole Position Award, Michelisz was named Driver of the Year at the Autosport es Formula awards in Budapest last night.
And it would get even better when Michelisz's team, M1RA, was named team of the year for its success in the TCR International Series
"It's been a wonderful few days, first attending the FIA Prize Giving gala for the first time to accept my FIA WTCC runner-up trophy and seeing so many of the world's top drivers in the same place, and now with these incredible awards from Autosport es Formula, one of Hungary's most prestigious motor racing publications," said Michelisz. "I'm thrilled to be Driver of the Year again and extremely proud of the team at M1RA. This award is a very fitting reward for their efforts, so thank you to everybody who was involved in the process."
Because Michelisz was unable to attend the event in person due to its close proximity to the FIA Prize Giving in Paris, his race engineer, Gergely Bari, accepted the award on his behalf. Bari is pictured left with Attila Tassi (M1RA driver) and David Bari (M1RA team manager).
