WRC legends for Glasgow
Five super-heroes from the WRC's group B era will renew old rivalries in driving shootouts on the streets of Glasgow in august.
World champions Miki Biasion (1988 and 1989), Timo Salonen (1985), Stig Blomqvist (1984) and Ari Vatanen (1981) will be joined by Markku Alén at the Ignition Festival of Motoring on 4 - 6 August).
All five special stage legends mastered the fire-breathing Group B monsters that dominated the WRC in the mid-1980s. They will be behind the wheel of the fearsome cars they campaigned in their heydays for a series of demonstration runs.
The drivers, who claimed 68 WRC rally wins between them, will also ignite their competitive instincts twice a day to compete head-to-head on a specially created street stage in sports cars.
Biasion (top) won the title in consecutive seasons in a Lancia Delta Integrale while Salonen (below), who lifted the crown in a Peugeot 205 T16, was Group B's most successful driver with seven wins in that era.
Blomqvist's championship came in an Audi Quattro while Vatanen (above) scored his only title in a two-wheel drive Ford Escort before becoming a Group B gladiator in a 205 T16. The flamboyant Alén spent his Group B days in Lancia's 037 and Delta, latterly as Biasion's team-mate.
