Vernay is the WTCR’s street king

Jean-Karl Vernay might have missed his goal of finishing third in the final WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO standings, but in terms of street races won, Vernay was without equal in 2018.

Already a winner in Marrakech and Wuhan, Vernay made it a hat-trick of street race victories with the Race 1 success in Macau last weekend.

Part of the Audi Sport Leopard Lukoil Team line-up, Vernay declared his love of street tracks before heading to Macau and he capitalised on this with his Circuito da Guia victory.

"With our top speed we knew we would be able to overtake and that is what happened, said the French Audi RS 3 LMS driver. "I just tried to stay out front and make no mistakes, be really consistent and make a good exit from the last two corners.

"It [finishing third in the final standings] would have been such a great reward for the guys in the team and for the partners which made this first season possible. I am still happy to be the best of the VW group cars but we know it was not our goal. Now the focus is on 2019."
