Tough times for WTCR’s Lionman
The driver called a ‘lion' by his team manager for his determined racecraft experienced a China double-header to forget, returning to his native France with just six points to show for his recent efforts in the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO.
Yann Ehrlacher, a WTCR OSCARO race winner, arrived in China in late September firmly in title contention, but two frustrating weekends later he's ninth in the table and 63 points shy of the championship summit.
"I've had a tough day," the ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport driver said at the end of the WTCR Race of China-Wuhan weekend. "After finishing fourth on the road yesterday, we made a change to the set-up that wasn't so much to my liking, but still should have been okay, except I got blocked twice on my last lap in Q1 and qualified P21. On a street circuit, you cannot do anything from there. I did make two good starts and was able to overtake, but I just started too far back to battle for points."
Although his fourth-place finish in Race 1 would be cancelled out when a jumped-start penalty was applied, Honda-powered Ehrlacher says holding off Gordon Shedden for several laps in their battle for third was one of his "best drives" of the year, while ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport Team Manager Dominik Greiner was also full of praise, adding: "Yann's race was magnificent; he defended like a lion."
