Title winner Tarquini ready to fight again in WTCR

Gabriele Tarquini starts the defence of his WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO title in Morocco next week ready to fight but accepting that a second global crown will be hard to come by.

Tarquini is part of a #WTCR2019SUPERGRID packed with six fellow FIA world title winners plus a host of other top drivers.

Having taken the inaugural WTCR / OSCARO title by three points in a thrilling season showdown in Macau last November, Tarquini is gearing up to do it all again in his BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse-entered i30 N TCR, starting in Marrakech from 5-7 April.

“Last year I proved I was not old enough because I won the title after a great season, probably one of my best seasons,” said the 57-year-old Italian. “This year is another fight because it’s another target and the grid is fantastic.

“I am proud of the job I did last year. I don’t know if something has changed in my mind but I will be very happy to repeat last year’s season, not in terms of result because I think it will be very difficult to repeat that, but I want to be focused like last year and try to do my best to be on the pace, always fighting for the title.”
