Thompson: WTCR points unexpected

James Thompson has admitted his double points finish in the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO opener was beyond his expectations.

Thompson is a late addition to ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport line-up for the first five WTCR events but took a sixth and an eighth from the three races that made up the WTCR AFRIQUIA Race of Morocco weekend.

"Two weeks ago I wasn't even planning on racing this year, so to come away from my first weekend in a TCR Honda and have strong top-10 finishes is brilliant," said the double British Touring Car champion. "I've become more and more comfortable as the weekend has gone on, and that's been reflected in my pace.

"I could see my way to the front in Race 2, but I was squeezed into the pit exit by Pepe Oriola and I chose to lift, rather than cause an accident, and that lost me some ground. I'm looking forward to Hungary."

WTCR Race of Hungary takes place from 27-29 April.
