Thompson completes ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport line-up

James Thompson will contest the opening races of the WTCR-FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO after his return to ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport was announced.

Briton Thompson is scheduled to drive the German team's third Honda Civic Type R TCR in Morocco, Hungary, Germany, Netherlands and Portugal. A decision on who will drive the car for the remaining five race weekends will be taken at a later date.

René Münnich, who doubles as driver and team owner, had been scheduled to race in this season's WTCR but a combination of business commitments and his FIA World Rallycross Championship programme has forced a change of plan for the German.

Yann Ehrlacher from France and Esteban Guerrieri from Argentina will complete the ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport line-up for 2018.

"We all at ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport are very happy to welcome back James Thompson," said Dominik Greiner, Team Manager. "James raced with us in 2016 and we are delighted to see him behind the wheel of the Honda Civic Type R TCR alongside Esteban and Yann. For the moment we confirm James for the first part of the 2018 season."

Greiner continued: "The decision to hire James came very very late. Due to some important work for René in his company, he is not able to join our WTCR project at the moment alongside his intensive work in his regular business. He will focus on his RX project as well."

Thompson, who raced for ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport in the 2016 WTCC, said: "I was sat at home when René called and asked if I fancy doing a few races. Well it took me 30 seconds to make up my mind. It's great and a real surprise. It's really nice to be back. I remember it being a great team atmosphere from 2016. Everything is a little new but hopefully my experience and a little grey hair will pull me through."

The 43-year-old is no stranger to Honda power having raced for the Japanese marque in the British Touring Car Championship, the FIA European Touring Car Cup and the WTCC. His British Touring Car Championship tittle triumphs came in 2002 and 2004. He has four wins to his name at world level and last raced in the WTCC in 2016 with ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport.
