Tarquini set for Slovakia WTCR excitement at 225kph
Gabriele Tarquini reckons the “exciting” Slovakia Ring will help to deliver plenty of action when the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car presented by OSCARO visits later this week.
The 2018 WTCR / OSCARO title winner is a huge fan of the track, which is also hosting the 8 Hours of Slovakia FIM Endurance World Championship as part of a double-header weekend.
“The Slovakia Ring is one of the most exciting to drive in the WTCR,” said the BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse driver. “In my personal list of circuits, it’s just down from Suzuka. I’m always happy to drive there because the characteristics of the corners are always completely different from one to the other.
“You have a very fast part of the track and a very slow part, so it’s always exciting. T2 is one of the fastest corners at 225kph and I remember well one year in WTCC when I lost the bonnet in the middle of the corner. It was amazing because I had no vision and I was in the middle of one of the fastest corners.”
Tarquini is a two-time winner in WTCR / OSCARO this year, his latest triumph coming in Race 3 at WTCR Race of Hungary last month. However, he will start Race 1 at WTCR Race of Slovakia with a five-place grid penalty following contact with Yann Ehrlacher and Esteban Guerrieri in Race 2 at the Hungaroring.
