Szabó looks to Slovakia after tough WTCR Race of Portugal
Zsolt Szabó plans to put his "bad" WTCR Race of Portugal weekend behind him by looking ahead to Slovakia's rounds of the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO next month.
Hungarian Szabó was on a high after qualifying a season best-equalling P12 in First Qualifying but his Vila Real visit soon unravelled. He was caught up in the multi-car accident in Race 1 and was never able to rediscover his true form due to damage sustained to his Zengő Motorsport Cupra TCR.
"As a consequence of the accident we had some problems with the car during [Second Qualifying] and had some issues during Race 2," Szabó explained. "I tried to manage this problem and solve it during the race and slowed down a little but the car didn't react in a good way so I had to give up [and did not start Race 3].
"This [was a] really bad weekend for me but I'm really glad [with my pace] because I could fight for the points and hopefully I can do it in Slovakia also. The team did an amazing job to repair the car, which is why I could join the field [on Sunday]."
Szabó's team-mate Norbert Nagy finished P14 in Race 1, P13 in Race 2 but retired in Race 3.
WTCR Race of Slovakia takes place at the Slovakia Ring from 13-15 July.
