Suzuki's 'moustache' fairing makes debut in Motegi MotoGP practice
Suzuki MotoGP riders Andrea Iannone and Alex Rins trialled a new aerodynamic fairing in Friday practice at Motegi, which the team has dubbed the 'moustache'.
Rins was first to sample the new bodywork in first practice, before team-mate Iannone got his hands on the upgrade in time for the afternoon session.
Both riders finished in the top 10 in practice two, Iannone finishing up seventh-fastest and Rins - who had been eighth in the morning - 10th.
The 'moustache' is the second type of aerodynamic fairing Suzuki has used this year, following on from the variant that was first seen in pre-season testing.
It partially emulates the designs introduced by Ducati and Aprilia in recent races, featuring a pair of downforce-generating wings either side of the front wheel.
"The new fairing for sure helps a little bit with the wheelie," said Iannone.
"I think it's interesting, because everybody this year has worked on this area. I'm very happy Suzuki arrived with these new parts."
Iannone added he was optimistic of a stronger showing this weekend at Motegi after a troubled season so far that has yielded a best result of seventh place.
"I'm happy about today, one of the best Fridays for us," he said.
"This morning I had a very good feeling with the bike.
"This afternoon I improved my pace and my lap time, I stayed in the top 10 more or less all the practice.
"We have a good chance of a good weekend."
