Sordo injures back in testing crash

Dani Sordo fractured a vertebrae on friday after crashing his Hyundai i20 World Rally Car while testing for the forthcoming Neste Rally Finland [28-31 july].

The Spaniard was taken to hospital in Finland following the smash and spent Friday night and most of Saturday under observation before being discharged on Saturday evening.

Sordo broke the news of his accident late on Friday via Facebook and also posted a photo of his left arm complete with hospital registration bracelet and intravenous drip.

"Today we had a strong off in the Finland test. A broken suspension arm turned the car completely to the right and we had a strong impact at the front," he explained.

"At the moment it's all good but tonight I'll sleep in the hospital. Tomorrow we will have more news. Thanks for the support."

Sordo's co-driver Marc Marti was not badly injured and described his condition on Saturday morning as "sore but cheerful".

On Saturday evening, Sordo confirmed he had left hospital.

"In the end I only have a fractured vertebrae and nothing much more important. I am pretty sore the lumbar part, tomorrow I'm going home for total rest to try to be on top in Finland," he wrote.

Sordo's damaged car is on its way back to the Hyundai team's base in Alzenau, Germany. A spokesman confirmed that further testing had been postposed until the car had been analysed.

Sordo is due to drive for the Hyundai Motorsport N squad in Finland. An update from the team is expected on Monday.
