Sordo extends Hyundai deal

Dani Sordo has agreed a new two-year deal with Hyundai Motorsport which will keep him with the Korean manufacturer until the end of 2018.

The Spaniard, who has been with Hyundai since its WRC return in 2014, equalled his best result for the team when he claimed his third podium in the i20 World Rally Car at ADAC Rallye Deutschland yesterday.

It promoted him to sixth in the drivers' standings, eight points behind third-placed team-mate Hayden Paddon, despite missing the previous round in Finland after breaking a vertebra in his back during a heavy testing shunt.

Paddon is also committed to Hyundai until the end of 2018 after signing a three-year contract in October last year. The team has expressed its wish to retain test driver Kevin Abbring but speculation continues to link Thierry Neuville with a move away from the Alzenau-based team.

"I have had the pleasure of seeing and helping this young team grow into real contenders in just a few years and I am really excited to see where we can develop into the future, especially with the new regulations," said Sordo.

"My aim is to fight for WRC wins and podiums on a regular basis, and I know that is a realistic goal with this team. We've had our most successful season to date in 2016 but I know that there is so much more to come this season - and beyond."
Team principal Michel Nandan emphasised the importance of Sordo to the squad.

"He is motivated and consistent, helping us to develop both on and off rallies. We have shared many happy memories together, including their excellent result at the weekend. We can now look forward to even more positive progress in the future," he said.
