Ogier awaits appeal decision
Sébastien Ogier will tomorrow learn the outcome of the appeal into his power stage points penalty at Rally Guanajuato Mexico.
M-Sport Ford World Rally Team's case will be heard by the FIA's International Court of Appeal in Paris tomorrow (Friday 4 May) morning and the decision is expected to be announced later in the day.
Event stewards hit the WRC championship leader, who won the rally, with a 10sec penalty after his Ford Fiesta struck a chicane in the event-closing Las Minas Power Stage.
Ogier's original time placed him second in the stage rankings behind Ott Tänak, gaining four bonus points to add to his championship challenge. The decision to add 10sec to his time relegated Ogier to seventh and out of the top five points-paying positions.
Should the British team win the appeal, Ogier's lead at the top of the drivers' standings over Thierry Neuville would increase from 10 to 15 points, as his reinstatement would deduct a point from the Belgian's tally.
The manufacturers' championship will not be affected by the decision.
