Number crunching in Germany

Times from the special stages are what will ultimately decide the outcome of next week's ADAC Rallye Deutschland (18 - 21 august), but wrc.com unearthed some other fascinating numbers from this ninth round of the FIA World Rally Championship.

1,196,490 metres is the total length of the rally. The 18 special stages account for 306,800 metres and the liaison sections add up to 889,690 metres.

411,000 metres of safety barriers will be erected. That is broken down to 350km of cordoning tape, 45km of plastic fencing and 16km of metal fencing.

100,000 zip ties will be used by the installation and removal teams. They are needed, for instance, to install 7,500 signs for spectator management.

10,000kg of equipment are necessary for WRC TV to cover the rally, including 14km of cabling. More than 50 broadcasters in 150 countries will provide exciting action from the event.

6,500 bin liners contribute to the event's environmental protection plan.

3,000 volunteers will work at the rally, including 2,000 marshals who will provide security in the stages. They come from 70 ADAC local and motor sport clubs.

400 journalists have been accredited to report to the world from the media centre in Trier's service park.

3 wins at ADAC Rallye Deutschland is the career total of Dieter Depping, who will drive the 0 course car - the historic Volkswagen Golf II GTI which won the 1986 Group A world championship driven by Kenneth Eriksson / Peter Dieckmann.
