Niclas Gronholm set for Kouvola crosskart debut

Following his best appearance in the FIA World Rallycross Championship to date, in Sweden earlier this month, Niclas Gronholm will make a guest appearance in a crosskart buggy at the Kouvola circuit in Finland this weekend.

"I don't have experience of this exact crosskart (750cc), but I have raced similar things before in Finland. It's always fun to race at home, you meet a lot of friends you have got to know in racing over the years and that makes it a bit special for sure," said Gronholm, son of two time World Rally Champion, Marcus. "It's hard to set any goals for the weekend, I don't get a lot of practice with the car so it will make it a bit challenging to get used to. I'll do my best and hope to be in the final. Every kilometer counts and there is always something you can catch and improve on your driving skills."

At Holjes two weeks ago, Gronholm made the World RX semi-finals for the first time in his 2016 campaign, driving for the OlsbergsMSE team alongside Kevin Eriksson. The circuit was the first that Gronholm had previous experience of, having made his World RX debut at the venue in 2015.

"I think experience helped a lot, and at Holjes the car was better than ever before. I also managed to minimise my own mistakes. I'm looking forward to Canada (the next round of World RX). I've heard it is a nice track so hopefully I can reach the semi-finals again and with a bit of better luck, challenge for a place in the final. It wont be easy to race on a new track for me again, but that's life."
