Need to know Ningbo? Guerrieri is your WTCR track guide

Esteban Guerrieri made history at Ningbo in 2017 when he became the first driver to win an FIA international motor race at the recently-opened venue.

The ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport explains the challenges the drivers in the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO will face on the 4.01-kilometre layout when WTCR Race of China-Ningbo takes place from 28-30 September.

"It's very, very technical," says the Argentine. "In 2017 it was new asphalt so no grip and that meant it was difficult to find the limits. And because we never drove in the dry that was even harder.

"There is a triple or quadruple right-hander in sector one, which is going up after a left. It's very difficult going uphill and then downhill and it's difficult to get it right. Then in the last sector there is a downhill section where you have a blind corner.

"The front-right of the car stays in the air but the front-left of the splitter always brushes the surface. I remember the mechanics giving me ‘stick' because I was brushing too many floors but I kept saying ‘I can't do anything else, I am just driving'.

"So the track is quite challenging in almost every part but in these two sectors it's really quite tricky."

On the subject of car set-up, Guerrieri needs his Honda Civic Type R TCR to have a "good front end". He explains: "You need this because you have a lot of corners that are connected one after the other, if the car is washing away at the front it's difficult to point it in the direction you want to go."
