MotoGP trims race direction panel for 2017 with new Capirossi role

Former racer Loris Capirossi will become MotoGP promoter Dorna's representative on what is essentially a trimmed grand prix race direction panel in 2017.

Capirossi, who won nine premier class races with Yamaha, Honda and Ducati, became a safety advisor after retiring from MotoGP at the end of the 2011 season.

The Italian then joined race direction in 2013 as the riders' representative and expert advisor to the core three-member team.

He now becomes Dorna's appointee on the primary panel following the departure of its events managing director Javier Alonso.

Capirossi joins race director and IRTA representative Mike Webb and the FIM's Franco Uncini.
