Michelisz’s team has WTCR ambitions
The team co-owned by WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup racer Norbert Michelisz has ambitions of competing in the all-new series one day after confirming it will use the Hyundai i30 N TCR in 2018.
M1RA claimed the entrants' title in the TCR International Series in 2017 but has yet to finalise its competition programme for the upcoming season.
All 26 entry spaces in WTCR were filled ahead of the closing date for registrations on 30 January. However, two wildcard entries will be up for grabs at all 10 planned events, which could pave the way for M1RA to race at the top level this year.
"The team has several options for the forthcoming season and I am sure we will find the best solution soon," said M1RA Team Principal Dávid Bári. "We would be happy to compete in a strong regional TCR championship. However, we have not given up to show up in the WTCR as well."
Of M1RA's decision to switch from Honda to Hyundai power for 2018 - a move that mirrors Michelisz's winter change - Bári said: "I have visited Hyundai's headquarters in Germany several times, and I was always impressed how professional and committed they are. I believe, the combination of i30 N TCR and M1RA can form a strong package.
"To unleash the full potential in our team, we need a close relationship with a dedicated manufacturer with strong customer support, so I am really looking forward to this cooperation."
