Michelisz admits team-mate Tarquini is “supremely fast” in WTCR
Norbert Michelisz says Gabriele Tarquini's success at WTCR AFRIQUIA Race of Morocco will only make him better as he bids to claw back the points deficit to his BRC Racing Team colleague.
While Tarquini (left) charged to two wins in Marrakech earlier this month, Michelisz (right) was hit by myriad problems and returned to his native Hungary eighth in the table and 40 points shy of the veteran Italian.
Although Michelisz insists he won't be paying any attention to the title standings until Macau's season showdown in November, there will be huge expectation on the Hungarian driver's shoulders to deliver when the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO resumes at this home track this weekend.
"I was his team-mate when we were racing with Honda and I also realised that with his age he is getting even stronger," said Michelisz. "Like Yvan [Muller], Gabriele was always supremely fast in cars with a bit more weight and a bit less downforce so I didn't expect to have an easy life this season and I expect him to be performing at his best for the rest of the season. But this is not a problem for me because it's making it possible for me to become better and learn more from him. The level of the championship makes me really excited and motivated."
