Meeke pledges to improve
Kris Meeke has vowed to raise his game after allowing a golden chance for victory at last weekend's Rally Guanajuato Mexico to slip through his hands.
Third place for the Citroën C3 driver positions him fourth in the championship standings, but Meeke was frustrated that a series of mistakes ended the chance of repeating his 2017 victory on the high-altitude gravel roads.
"I have to be better, simple as that," he told wrc.com. "Too many mistakes this weekend. I had everything in my hands to fight for the victory. I had the road position, the car was good enough to win and I had the pace to win but I wasn't able to convert it. Frustrating."
The Ulsterman topped the leaderboard briefly in Friday's opening leg but fell away from leader Sébastien Ogier on Saturday after a spin and an engine stall.
He remained on course for second before tipping his C3 on its side on Sunday morning's opening speed test. He was manhandled back onto the road by spectators but fell behind Dani Sordo onto the final podium step.
"You can start too look too deeply as to why these things happen. We have shown in the past with the victories I have had in Finland, Portugal and Catalunya last year, they were faultless weekends," added Meeke.
"I can do it, I just need to do it more often. Sebastien Ogier had incredible pace this weekend but with our starting position we should have been in front. Let's regroup, get our Tarmac shoes on and see how we go in Corsica."
