Meeke happy with early form

Kris Meeke is satisfied with the start to his new season at Toyota Gazoo Racing and his haul of 35 points from the opening three rounds.

The Northern Irishman's WRC future hung in the balance last year after he was dropped mid-season by Citroën Racing.

But for 2019 he was thrown a lifeline by Toyota and he has repaid that faith with three strong runs at the wheel of a Yaris WRC.

Meeke took sixth place and a Wolf Power Stage win at an incident-filled debut at Rallye Monte-Carlo and followed that with another sixth place in Sweden.

He led last week's third round in Mexico before a puncture dropped him to fifth. A storming second-fastest run through the Power Stage [watch the video below] earned him four more bonus points.

Meeke told wrc.com the start to his campaign was meeting his expectations.

"Monte Carlo, Sweden and Mexico were three complicated rallies with unique conditions. We could have taken a lot more points, but with three finishes and Toyota leading the manufacturers' championship, it's certainly not a bad start to the season,"he said.

Meeke was also satisfied with the transition from Citroën's C3 to the Yaris.

"I'm quite comfortable in the car. Although I've only had one or two fastest times, you have to be comfortable to do that," he explained.
